A Blended Learning Adventure!
Hi, I'm Mr. Fahey. Welcome to Fabled Learning!
Fabled Learning is a site for hosting the free and open-source Moodle Learning Management System. It is my hope to provide an engaging blended-learning environment to my students that is game-based, project-based, & competency-based.

Online learning had been an increasing fact of life even before the pandemic:
In 2017 67% of organizations offered some kind of mobile learning.
And over 6 million college students were enrolled in online courses.
Now, nearly every school and organization in the world is integrating some form of online learning. Being able to navigate an online environment with the intent to learn is an essential skill in the 21st century and post-covid 19 era.
The e-learning and instructional technology sector is now a multi-billion dollar industry. In desperation, many public institutions have thrown tax dollars at for-profit entities in the hope for a quick fix to our problems. In the past, The high cost of buying, hosting, and administering online learning prevented many public schools from preparing our students for this new digital reality. Now, we are playing catch-up. I believe public dollars should stay in the public realm which is why Fabled Learning uses Moodle, the only completely free and open-source online learning platform. When using Moodle student data is never sold and our money stays invested in our public schools.
Moodle is one of the only widely used LMS's declared a Digital Public Good by the DPGA
Fabled Learning is in development to help bring a complete LMS to my students.
Moodle is an open-source, free, learning management system used to host course content. Students will be able to view and submit assignments online from any device connected to the internet. This allows students to work at their own pace and they never again have to worry about loosing their homework in the abyss of their lockers.
Learn More about Moodle Keep ReadingCompetency-based education puts the standards in the hands of the students. They know what they're expected to learn. The teacher in the classroom provides a foundation of lessons and assessments aligned to certain standards at a certain time, but the blended environment also allows students to provide some evidence in their own way and at their own pace. Students earn competency badges when there is sufficient evidence of mastery when compared to a rubric. This year we will be working to map the Common Core ELA and VT social Studies standards. Here is an example map from previous years:
"Digital Literacy and Computer Science (DLCS) knowledge, reasoning, and skills are essential both to prepare students for personal and civic efficacy in the twenty-first century and to prepare and inspire a much larger and more diverse number of students to pursue the innovative and creative careers of the future. The abilities to effectively use and create technology to solve complex problems are the new and essential literacy skills of the twenty-first century."
Games have become an integral part of our modern day culture. By incorporating them into a learning environment they help sustain student engagement. Fabled Learning utilizes two Moodle plugins Level Up! and Stash to immerse students in a role-playing environment where they can gain points and items for participating in the course. Custom games are also being developed to facilitate course content such as Symbiotica, a JRPG style game that explores the evolving relationship between humans and technology.
